Virtual Tour - Duke of Connaught's Road

You've made it to the former site of Duke of Connaught's Road. The road used to run all the way from the Connaught Hospital, and past Tournay, Ramilies, Oudenarde, Maplaquet and Blenheim barracks, bisected by Queens Avenue, and running all the way upto the Queen's Hotel. Today, there is little visible evidence of it's existence with the Western end now the site of Wavell School and much of the old road absorbed into the Blenheim Park area, although the route of the road still exists in part here.

Where to now? At the Western end is the Queen's Hotel, and across Queens Avenue to the East is the former Brigade School and North Camp Fire station, with Blenheim Barracks, Malplaquet barracks, Oudenarde Barracks, Tournay Barracks Ramiliies Barracks and Lille Barracks also situated close by, along with Redvers Buller Road and the former site of The Glasshouse prison. The busy Lynchford Road is just to the North along with the former Wesleyan Soldier's home, with the former site of the Connaught National Hospital at the Eastern end.
