Virtual Tour - Farnborough Road

You've made it to Farnborough Road, the ancient turnpike providing access from the South to London, and one of the busiest roads in the town. Image 1 of Farnborough Road (Mid) shows the former Cambridge Hotel on the right with Jubilee Hall and the old Post Office building further along, with The Railway Hotel (now The Ham and Blackbird) on the left. Image 4 of Farnborough Road (South) shows Star Hill, a name long forgotten for the area north of the former Hillside Convent going towards what is now the large Pinehurst Roundabout.

At the Southern end of Farnborough Road is Lynchford Road offset by the Queens Hotel, the former site of Common Lane and the Cockadobby Hill monument, with Netley Street and the RFC Barracks a little further up. Moving North is Trenchard House, the birth place of the RAF, the former site of the RAE, Castleden Hall, Belgrave House School, Ardwyck House and the Swan Inn a little further up. The old Town Hall is a short walk away in Alexandra Road with the Farnborough and Cove War Memorial Hospital close by to the East. A little further on and you can pass the Tumbledown Dick pub and the Rex Cinema before reaching the landmark of the Clockhouse. To the West from this point is Victoria Road leading into Cove and Farnborough station with Salisbury Road and the former site of Brands Removals store to the East. Going further North is the entrance to St. Michael's Abbey before you reach Highgate Lane, the two lodges which lead onto the impressive Farnborough Hill estate, the former Miniature Railway and RAE recreation ground and sports club, and Farnborough Football Club on Cherrywood Road.
