Memories of Farnborough - Avenue Farm in the late 1930s

The farmhouse itself was in fact two three-bedroomed houses back to back. My grandparents lived in the front and we lived in the back. The building directly behind the house was the tack room and stables with a coach house in the middle. The building to the rear of this was the cow stalls, and behind that were the pig styes. The little white building at the front was my Uncle oung's workshop. I think the date of the picture is nearer to 1938 as in the early years of the war there was an anti-aircraft gun emplacement and two barrack blocks on the field behind. The only damage we incurred during the war was when a picture fell off the wall when they tried out the gun! The Nissan hut left behind was used subsequently as a garage. I believe we left Avenue Farm about 1939 to move to Ash Vale after my maternal grandmother died to look after my grandfather (Dellabier Clarke) who had a smallholding there at Woodside, Station Road, Ash Vale.
