One of these redevelopments saw the Rex Cinema on Farnborough Road make way for developments as part of the Kingsmead shopping centre development. Built in 1937 the cinema survived into the 1970s before a decline in audiences saw to its eventual demise shortly after images 1 and 2 were taken. Today the former site of the Rex Cinema is just south of the Total station on Farnborough Road on the right hand side of image 3.
Click to view the programme from the opening of the Rex Cinema in 1937 signed by the star and director of the first film, Jessie Matthews and Sonnie Hale.
