Over the years more than 100 different locations in Farnborough have either been demolished or redeveloped for various reasons, taking away a little part of the town's history in the process.
One of these redevelopments was the demolition of the former Whitehall Farm on Southwood Lane close to the entrance to the former Southwood camp. Today this area has been completely redeveloped with the Broadmead area of the Southwood estate. Images 5-9 shows a marshy area which runs adjacent to Southwood Lane just beyond the turning into Broadmead, this used to be the former pond for Whitehall Farm but is very overgrown today and can be compared with Image 2 which shows the treeline to the right of the pond in 1976.
Currently we are trying to source an old photograph of Whitehall Farm to feature here. If you have a photo of this location that you'd like to share with Historic Farnborough please either use our submission facility or contact us. Once we have a historic photo to share this location will be added to the virtual tour of historic Farnborough.
